About
Translating ideas into words
Marie Brasseur – My background
For more than fifteen years, I held communications roles at international organisations across a range of sectors. My job was to translate technical protocols and European regulations into messages the international press could carry and the general public could understand.
Then I wrote Le deuil ne se tait pas, a French-language book published by Éditions Academia that follows grief from the inner journey to sharing it online, a subject we rarely know how to talk about. I learned to give it a life of its own with my knowledge and my network: in bookshops, in the media and online. I also sit on the board of the Belgian non-profit Vivre son deuil.
I work with organisations, entrepreneurs, secretary generals, authors and advocates who have a message to share but aren’t always sure how to go about it or which tools to use. My background in communications, digital marketing and press relations, my training as a translator and my experience as an author allow me to support you and bring what matters to you to the fore.

How I work
Three convictions
Listen before acting
Every project starts with a conversation: understanding your message and your vision, who you are, what matters to you and why you do what you do. No one-size-fits-all approach, but a framework and a set of levers I use depending on the person and the subject because what worked for one won’t necessarily work for another.
- A first conversation, with no commitment
- Reading and getting to grips with your work
- Setting concrete, measurable goals
- A tailor-made timeline
Telling it right
A good press release isn’t a summary of your activities: it gives journalists a fresh perspective or new data. A good interview doesn’t list arguments: it conveys a message, raises questions or teaches people something. A good event is never improvised: it is prepared within a framework that still leaves room for flexibility, so you can feel at ease. My job is to find the right angle at the right time, the one that makes journalists call you back, brings in more speaking invitations, raises the profile of your work and makes readers stop on your content.
- Content, angles and hooks
- Interview preparation
- Press releases and press kits
- Editorial writing for blogs and social media
Staying the course
Visibility for a book, a message or your services isn’t built in a week. If needed, I stay by your side over several months to adjust, react and amplify the opportunities that come up. Time is your best ally.
- Monthly or one-off support
- Coverage tracking and reporting
- Responding to the news agenda
- Ongoing strategic adjustments
